My March for Life Experience

In January of (I think) 2020, I attended Utah’s March for Life at the Capitol. This was my first step acting in the pro-life world.

The Capitol was full of excited people and good energy! I was by myself and in awe of the crowd. It was a mix of men, women, families, ethnicities, and religions.

The featured speaker was a post-abortive woman whose mother encouraged her to abort.

The speaker said she reluctantly went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion appointment—and here’s where I forever changed: the speaker said she was hoping there would be someone on the outside to persuade her to not go in. I later learned these are called sidewalk counselors.

But no one was outside.

She went into Planned Parenthood and described her experience as dark and cold. She had the abortion.

If someone had been outside, her child might be alive.

Sidewalk counselors are peaceful and provide alternatives to women, such as referring them to free and confidential services at pregnancy help centers that offer ultrasounds, counseling, parenting classes, father mentoring, baby supplies, post-abortive support, and more.

This march is where I saw a flyer for my local pregnancy resource center (PRC). It suggested holding a baby shower with friends and giving the gifts to the PRC. I did this and kept acting in the movement! I’ve even taken sidewalk counseling training.

My point? If you’re unexpectedly pregnant and scared, there are people who want to help you! And if you want to be involved in the movement, attend your local March for Life, train to be a sidewalk advocate, or donate to your local PRC.

Don’t give up! The world needs you :)
