What is an Abortion?

Surgical Abortion Methods

Vacuum Aspiration

Typically committed: 1st trimester

Preborn age: 3-11 weeks old

The uterus is emptied by a vacuum or syringe, and the baby is torn into pieces as she is pulled through the hose.

Dilation and Suction Curettage (D&C)

Typically committed: 1st trimester

Preborn age: 5-13 weeks old

The baby is fatally sucked out, a looped knife is used to dice up the placenta before the pieces are removed.

Dilation & Evacuation (D&E)

Typically committed: 2nd trimester

Preborn age: 11-21 weeks old

Induction or Prostaglandin

Typically committed: 2nd trimester

Preborn age: 11-21 weeks old

Labor is induced in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. Saline or urea is injected to kill the child in the womb. Digoxin or potassium chloride is directly inserted into the baby's heart to guarantee the child's death.

Chemical Abortion

A chemical abortion is taking a set of two pills, generally known as abortion pills. Here’s how they work:

1. Progesterone is the hormone needed to maintain the uterine lining which provides oxygen and nutrients for the baby. Mifeprex/Mifepristone (RU-486) blocks the action of progesterone. Without it, the baby starves of nutrients.

2. 24-48 hours later the second pill, Cytotec (or Misoprostol), is taken, causing uterine bleeding (sometimes profuse) and strong contractions to expel the baby.

3. The mother is told to miscarry at home or a hotel over a toilet. If she were to look closely, she would see her dead child. Even at only 7 weeks, she is likely to see his or her fingers and toes.

The Abortion Pill Reversal Process

If a woman has regrets after taking the first pill, the pregnancy may be saved by the Abortion Pill Rescue Network. Here’s how it works:

1. Progesterone is administered to reverse the effects of the abortion pill.

2. An ultrasound confirms viability of the baby.

3. Progesterone treatments continue for a minimum of two weeks.
